"It seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world."

"It seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world"

Is this statement true? Some may say yes, but I personally believe that this is a false statement. If most adults lose the ability to wonder, how do scientists invent new things? Where do new theories come from? Humans are born with a curious mind, always seeking the truth behind everything. It may be true that adults are not as curious as children, but adults wonder about the world as well. They wonder about different things from children. Children may wonder about "why people can't fly", adults wonder just the same, but about different matters, like "why has my life ended up like this?", or "why is my boss the worse boss ever?". When Albert Knox said this, it showed how ignorant he is of the outside world. As human grow older, they know more about the world which they reside in, so there are less mysteries surrounding it, therefore they do not need to wonder as much, but the world is still shrouded with many mysteries. Some questions may never be answered, which will allow humans to wonder forever, like "what's the meaning of life?", some may believe they already know the answer, but in the end, there is no definite answer.

In some sense, Albert Knox has a point. As people grow up, their lives become tedious and repetitive. They wake up in the morning, eat, go to work, lunch, work, dinner, watch television and sleep. This is the daily schedule for a lot of adults. A repetitive life may stop a person from wondering. This does not mean they have lost the ability to wonder. They can still wonder about many things that happen around them.

To conclude, I believe that Albert Knox's statement is a statement of an ignorant person who does not open open his eye the the outside world. I disagree with his statement because I believe that everyone has the ability to wonder about the world, because curiosity is just one of humans' unique quality.

Alex i agree with you in some points. However, scientists too derive new theories from facts that have been given to them. These facts are the ones that need to be questioned. And hence since the adults simply take it for granted leaves them the ones that require them to wonder.
