Assignment 2

In Chapter 25, Sophie was given a pair of 'red-tinted glasses' from Knox, after she wore it, her view of the world has increased and changed. The aim of giving the glasses to Sophie was to make her 'SEE' the real world, this move was crucial because thinking back now, we have limited sense and knowledge, and others would have different thoughts because they might have been taught the different thing from us. Thoughts that were implanted into our minds affects with how we respond to things, like when someone say yellow, and for me, i would immediately think of a banana, because this was taught by my parents that banna is yellow. But others might be different, and their parents might teach them green relates to banna aswell because raw bananas are green in color. This is just the difference of different people's opinions and thoughts.

The thoughts of rationalism and empiricist can be applied to this, empiricist is the side where they blieve what is shown, while rationalism reasons what they see. What i think is that the 'glasses' is just an expression of letting us to have a wider view of things and not let the new things be blocked by our thoughts.

This is true to a certain extent. You say that we see things because we are taught that way, but what if we were never taught how to perceive things? How would we manage to adapt. I believe that it doesn't only rely on the fact that we are brought up that way, but also the way our mind wants to see things as.
