"It seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world." I cannot agree or disagree with this statement. If Albert Knox means as we grow up, we tend to stop our thoughts about the world. Then what do we think about? What do we care and wonder about? This is the world we are living in, why do we lose interest, or lose the ability to wonder about the world?
I constantly wonder about things that are very useless to life, like computer games, etc... That is my world. To Michael Jordan, 10 years back, all he wondered was how to become better and better at his game. I look at my father, he read books that keep him conscious about this world; trying to learn everything he is interested in. Are we wondering about the world? Or is it just some aspects of life and minor things that we are interested in?
Through our education a social norm is set, our minds are programmed to learn, think, study, work, survive, marry, reproduce, and educate them with what you think is correct. We do know that killing is wrong, helping others is good. And through these thoughts in our mind, we think we know the world and this is the world. We get used to this rhythm in life, and just live. When thing occur breaking this rhythm, some care, and start to do something. For instance the biggest issue on the planet: Global Warming. Acceptance, is a way of viewing this, we stop thinking when we are small and powerless, cannot make a difference and just accept the facts.
We do not lose the ability; but come to realize that what can we do even if we wonder, what can we do? Not everyone’s a Sophie. You try to tell an office clerk to wonder about the world; I think he would rather do his job better and have a better life. Why would he be wondering about the world when he can do his job better and live a better life? I cannot agree or disagree, in any cases there are exceptions.

i totally agree
"This is the world we are living in, why do we lose interest, or lose the ability to wonder about the world?"
"Are we wondering about the world? "
:If I read the assignment properly, you are supposed to tell us your opinion?
"our minds are programmed to learn, ..., and educate them ": What is them?
"with what you think is correct":
Our education sets social norms for each of us personally base on our own opinions?
i believe james that you've misread parts of his post. "We do not lose the ability" suggests that he doesn't agree to the statement
" I cannot agree or disagree, in any cases there are exceptions."
What do you mean by exceptions?
Wilfrid, as evelyn (i think) has picked up, he's taken both sides of the story... and then some more.
Funny examples =.=
